Community Service

The Rotary Club of Welshpool...

Supports local charities and needy and worthwhile community service projects for both individuals and groups.

We also support district projects and charities such as:-

Childline

An emergency helpdesk for children in need of advice
and guidance and a friendly shoulder of support.

Hope House

A residential home for terminally ill children.

The Jubilee Sailing Trust

"To bring together able-bodied and physically disabled people through the medium of tall ship sailing."

Llanfyllyn High School

Two Welshpool Rotarians, Dennis Duggan and Peter Hodgson, are working with the school on Literacy Support.  This scheme is designed to assist the students who might be experiencing problems with reading.

This involves visiting the school on one morning per week for two hours over two terms.  Obviously the teaching staff play a major role in this, but by involving Rotary more students can be dealt with.

It is hoped that the students’ reading ability will be improved over a period of time from this initiative.  There are no tests or exams involved so the students do not feel pressurized.

This is a very good example of Rotary at work in the community.
